Today it’s Monday and the sun is shining and we are happy Zoots. The frosty evening yesterday led to these clear skies and bright sunshine. Today we’re off to Cambridgeshire to perform for Sian & Kevin on their wedding day at the, I think you’ll agree, very beautiful Bassmead Manor Barns.
Sian & Kevin had spotted us when we performed at Lisa & Niall’s wedding way way way back in 2014. It was such a super wedding, I loved how wonderful the room had been decked out, and I just loved the setting. I think one of my favourite things, was the paper maché giraffe (check out the blog). It’s always so wonderful being booked off the back of another performance. Such a great compliment! And it means we get to see some familiar faces again too! We were really looking forward to seeing Lisa and Niall again at Sian and Kevin’s wedding.
We set off around 2pm to make our journey to Eaton Socon where Bassmead Manor Barn’s were located. The journey took around two and a half hours. Before we knew it, we were approaching the barn…
Fabulous isn’t it? I’m not sure whether is was the fact that is was dusk, or just that it wasn’t raining, but this place had a very special feeling about it. Cosy, warm, homely and open all at the same time! We knew it was going to be good. We parked our van and began to load in our equipment. The load in was great, and very straightforward. We could park really close to where we were performing which is always a great help! The team at Bassmead Manor Barns had cleverly installed a curtain for us to set up behind, meaning we could set up most of our kit, and once the room was cleared, and the curtains opened, we could spill out in front of this area and soundcheck. Sian and Kevin had enlisted someone to act as MC for the evening, which was a great help, as he ushered the guests out of the room quickly, meaning we could soundcheck promptly.
The team at Bassmeads were just wonderful, and very welcoming, their system was a very well oiled machine, so much so, the day was actually running slightly ahead of schedule! We do travel to a lot of venues, and are able to experience how the day goes are first hand; over our years of touring, we’ve come to realise a venue is only as good as the people working there, and these guys were great! After setting up, we made our way through to the bar area, where Sian and Kevin had set up some pretty awesome delights to entertain their guests.
We headed to the ‘bridal boudoir’ which was to be our break out room for the night. Sian had kindly arranged for us to have this space we could use to relax, warm up and get changed in. Sian and Kevin had also arranged for us to have some delicious sandwiches after we’d set up, they did just the trick!
First dance was sung by Kevin’s sister with Glenn the DJ playing the track for her to sing to, we had a sneaky listen during soundcheck, she was brilliant! Shortly after the first dance, we were ready to go on:
Sian & Kevin had chosen some brilliant songs from our repertoire for us to play. We were looking forward to playing some ones we don’t get to perform all of the time, especially ‘Rebel Rebel’, ‘Alright’ and ‘Alright Now’.
Here’s a video of Ben Jones on Lead Guitar performing Sex on Fire.
He’s awesome, right? Check our his website here. (click the link).
The night went so fast. We had a short break in between our sets and when back on for our final set. It was brilliant. We played, ‘uptown Funk’, ‘Happy’, ‘Blurred Lines’, before rockin’ it up a bit with Ben’s famous rendition of ‘Sweet Child of Mine‘. Crikey it was good, perhaps one of my all time favourites!
Glenn Simpson, a friend of Sian and Kevin’s, was DJing for the evening before and between our sets. His sets were brilliant. If you’d like to book Glenn, his email address is: email@example.com
We had a really great night performing for an awesome crowd, and working with some wicked people.
Thanks so much to Lisa & Niall for having their wedding, in 2014, and thank you to Sian and Kevin for being at that wedding, and thank you all so much for booking The Zoots!
“Hi Zoots,We would just like to email to say thank you so much for making our wedding day such a special day.
