The Wiltshire wedding band
Saturday got off to a great start. Lead Guitarist Ben and Bass player Stuart stayed over a Zoots HQ following our gig the night before in Brean with our other group Jamie & The First Class. We started the day off with a tasty cooked breakfast before being joined by drummer Master East and hitting the road, bound for Sussex to perform at the wedding of Juliette & Nicolas. We met them a few weeks previously to talk weddings. Read all about it here. The journey was good, the weather was nice and we made good time. We stopped on the way to make a few phone calls and take some selfies.
We were really excited to be performing at Pandean Barn. It’s a beautiful venue, we performed there as Jamie & The First Class a few years ago. It was just as beautiful as we remembered. Nicky, Peter, Michael, Jackie and the team at Pangdean had done a great job of setting up the room, it looked amazing! The bride, Juliette was from South Africa and Nicholas, the groom, was from Switzerland so they had a bit of an location themed wedding breakfast! I loved the vintage postcards from the different places in the world. The barn itself was just wonderful, with lots and lots of lights throughout the ceiling. It had a really warm feeling to it, I really like the straw bales as part of the wall!
We arrived about 130pm as we wanted to set up and soundcheck before the guests arrived at 4pm. The load in was perfect, we could park right by where we were performing and load our equipment directly on to the stage, saving us loads of time. Set up and soundcheck went without hitch. The room sounded great and we are still so impressed with our HK Audio PA as part of our new equipment rig. Bass player Stu had been booked to DJ, so he set up his kit too. We also checked in at a B&B just down the road called Mercers.
Wedding band at Pangdean Barn
Juliette & Nicholas had kindly arranged with Pangdean for a room for us to use at for the night, to store our belongings and to get changed in. This really does make all the difference and we are ever so grateful to Peter and Nicky at Pangdean for letting us use a room for this purpose. They were so welcoming, thank you!
After a cup of tea, we headed out to Mercer’s Barn, a bed and breakfast about 10 minutes away. Read the blog about it here. We returned an hour or so later for dinner at Pangdean, which was delicious. We got changed, took some photos and we were ready!
Before we went on, we had a bit of time for the room to be made ready, so we spent this time getting our equipment ready and making sure we were good to go. Three of the younger wedding guests, Eva, Clara and Eric (I hope I got the names right) came and talked to us before we began. They were an absolute delight to chat too and had a great time telling us all about their day. Mike showed Clara the drum kit and I chatted to Eva who was telling me about herself and her family and what her duties were as a flower girl. they also showed me their sticker book. They were so sweet and a real joy to talk to!
For their first dance, Juliette & Nicholas had chosen ‘That’s Amore’ by Dean Martin. They chose that songs as they wanted something with a watlz’y feel. As ‘That’s Amore’ is in 3/4, it meant that they could dance the waltz to it! We’d learnt it just for them – it was a really fun track to learn, hopefully we can perform it again one day soon! Their dance was wonderful, Juliette looked perfect in her dress and all of their guests watched and applauded as they took to the floor.
After the first dance, we went straight into the set with some 50s and 60s tracks which the couple had selected from our repertoire. We performed some Elvis, Chuck Berry, Jeff Beck, Roy Orbison and loads more! They loved it. The dance floor was packed throughout the first set!
After a quick break, some more tea, we were ready for the second set!
Our second set was brilliant. We performed some more modern tracks which Juliette & Nicholas had requested from our song list. Highlights included, Billie Jean & Beat it by Michael Jackson, Stuart singing Happy, all of the guests singing on ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ and Ben Jones’ awesome guitar solo on Sweet Child of Mine, all of the children we’re copying him with their blow up guitars!
We had such a great time performing for Juliette & Nicholas. We’re so happy that they chose us as their wedding band. It really was such an honour, their friends and family were an absolute pleasure to perform to, the atmosphere was brilliant. Big thank you to everyone at Pangdean who made us feel so very welcome – Peter, Nicky, Martin, Jackie and the team – thank you!
